Choices is excited to bring a representative from Equal Exchange (yep, the cooperative behind the delicious Fair Trade coffee) to inform our community on how their commitment to Fair Trade is contributing to the sustainability of our environment..
No one bears the brunt of climate change disaster more than farmers, small-scale farmers in particular. Equal Exchange is joining us to talk about how a group of small-scale farmers in India, called FTAK, includes environmental sustainability as part of their definition of "fair trade," and how your purchases at Choices can help support this movement!
Equal Exchange is a worker-owner cooperative and a fair trade pioneer. Ever since importing their first container of small-farmer grown coffee from Nicaragua in 1986, Equal Exchange has worked with small-scale farmers growing everything from coffee, tea, chocolate, sugar, mango, pineapple, apricots, cashews, almonds, and even olives for olive oil. Tying all of this together is their commitment to build long-term trade partnerships that are more just, equitable, and sustainable.
Annie Sholar is one of the 130+ co-owners of Equal Exchange, and lives in Madison, WI.
